National and International Associations:

A. Paper Presentations and Lectures

1. A research paper on ‘English Curriculum of Primary Schools in Maharashtra: A Critical Analysis’ has been presented in an international conference, organized by Nepal English Language Teachers Association (NELTA) Kathmandu, Nepal in 2011.

2. A research paper on ‘Man’s Estrangement from Man in Dilip Chitre’s Poetry’ has been presented and discussed with other participants in a national seminar on Indian English Poetry, organized in 2012 by Gandhigram Rural University, Dindigal Tamilnadu), India.

3. A plenary lecture on ‘Censorship and Marathi Theatre in the Colonial India’ was delivered in an international conference on Freedom of Culture-Culture of Freedom, organized in 2015 by Department of British and Commonwealth Studies, Faculty of International and Political Sciences University of Łódź, Poland.

4. I gave a talk in 2016 which was followed by interaction session, on ‘Castes in India’ in Department of History and Culture, University of Bolognia, Italy.

5. A research paper entitled, Representation of Dalits in Bollywood Films in 1980s, has been presented and defended in an international conference, organized in 2016 by Department of Modern Languages and Culture, University of Genoa, Italy.

6. As a PhD research scholar, to understand how Jerzy Grotowski’s idea of poor theatre contributes to my research work, in 2019, I visited the Grotowski Institute, (Wroclaw) Poland.

7. uring the Covid pandemic, I was assigned the work of online assessment of students in Fukuoka University, Japan (2020-2022).

8. I was invited in 2024 by The New College, Chennai (India) to give a talk on ‘Dalit Studies’.

9. In 2024, Justspeak, an organization in Poznan (Poland) assigned me a job of an instructor, teaching English as a foreign language. I taught English language to teenagers in Poland. It was a very blissful experience of a week as I could interact with Polish teenagers and understand Polish schooling through interaction with them.

B. Organization of Lectures and Conferences:

1. I, as a convener, organized a guest lecture on ‘Igbo life In Nigeria’ by Dr. Obinna Ajunwa, a Post- doctoral fellow at Aarhus University, Denmark in 2017. The lecture aimed at Igbo life and its depiction in the works of Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka and Chimamanda Adichie.

2. Education in Ukraine is being impacted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine as it has become very difficult for academic administration in Ukraine to run courses on campuses. In 2023, to introduce how teachers and students in Ukraine are managing their classes during the war-like situation, an online guest lecture on ‘Imparting Education During the War: A Ukrainian Perspective’ by Ms. Oksana Danylchenko Cherniak, Associate Professor, Department of Foreign Languages, Educational and Scientific Institute of Law, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine.

Faculty Development Courses:

I have participated in a faculty development programme on Grooming Researches in History and Anthropology, organized in 2018 by Department of History, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (India). It was conducted by Thomas Hansen, Professor, Stanford University, (US).

I have participated in a short-term course, entitled Rangpath which was jointly conducted by Maharashtra Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) and Lalit Kala Kendra (Centre for Performing Arts) Savitribai Phule Pune University Pune (India).

Research Projects:

Title: Industrialization in Mulk Raj Anand’s The Big Heart

Funding Agency: Board for College and University Development, Savitribai Phule Pune University

Status- Completed (2010)

In this project, I have highlighted how the expansion of industrialization in the colonial India has contributed to the displacement of caste-based artisans from their traditional work. As a result, these displaced artisans shifted to newly introduced work space and got rid of caste stigma by distancing themselves from their traditional caste-based work-space. It also impacted folk performances in India which are mainly caste- based. Caste-based folk performers left traditional folk performances and joined newly introduced jobs in industries especially in Mills and Railways.

At present, apart from my teaching commitments, I am working on Marathi Dalit Theatre and Jergy Grotowski’s idea of poor theatre. I am combining these two different traditions of theatre as I believe that they appear to be complementary to each other in respect of use of body and text. In both these traditions, actor’s body and text remain at the center of performance, while other theatrical apparatuses remain optional.
